The Bloomsburg School of Dance showcases a Competitive Dance team that continues to grow every year. We offer different levels for students to compete based on age, skill level, and experience. Our teams work closely with skilled instructors to prepare each routine and ensure every number is competition ready. Solo opportunities are offered on an individual basis to dancers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, dedication, maturity, and a strong work ethic throughout their training. Soloists represent an additional level of responsibility and are selected based on instructor evaluation, technical readiness, attendance, and overall commitment to their dance education. These opportunities are intended to recognize dancers who consistently go above and beyond in their training and involvement with the competition team.
Dancers interested in joining the competition team attend an evaluation day where they participate in short class segments in a variety of dance styles. These evaluations allow our instructors to assess each dancer's skills, technique, performance quality, and overall readiness for team placement.
Families will have the opportunity to indicate the maximum number of routines they are comfortable having their dancer participate in. Final team placements and routine assignments are determined by the studio director and staff based on each dancer's abilities, team needs, and overall evaluation results.
Competition team choreography is primarily taught during the summer months to help dancers enter the season prepared and ready to focus on refining their routines. Throughout the competition season, dancers will typically spend approximately 30 minutes each week cleaning, improving, and perfecting their choreography as they continue to grow as performers.
Choreography schedules are planned in advance with consideration given to family vacations, summer activities, and other commitments whenever possible. While every effort is made to accommodate scheduling needs, flexibility may be required to ensure all routines are completed and ready for the upcoming season.
A choreography fee is assessed for each competition routine and covers the creation and instruction of the routine.
Participation on the competition team requires both a time and financial commitment from dancers and their families. While exact schedules and costs may vary from season to season, Bloomsburg School of Dance is committed to providing this information to families as early as possible to assist with planning.
Families interested in learning more about the expected commitment are welcome to request sample schedules and cost information from previous seasons for reference. Competition expenses are typically spread throughout the season rather than due all at once, and fundraising opportunities are offered to help offset costs whenever possible.
Our goal is to be transparent and provide families with the information they need to determine whether the competition team is the right fit for their dancer and family.
