The ballroom dance repertoire will include dances from the Latin genre: cha-cha, rumba, samba, jive and the like as well as formal dancing such as: the waltz, fox trot, quick step, etc. A partner is not required for this class.
A form of dance seen in Broadway shows and music videos, jazz technique is influenced by ballet and consists of kicks, turns, and leaps.
Originating in the United States, tap became popular during the "Jazz Age". It involves rhythmic percussion, utilizing the taps on the shoes. Many Broadway shows feature tap dancing.
This type of dance, also known as acro, is a combination of tumbling and dance. This style of dance is seen in Cirque Du Soliel shows. It is highly recommended that acro students enhance their training with ballet.
A street or funk style of dance performed to hip-hop, rap, or R&B music. Due to its casual style these classes are structured according to age rather than level.
This technique is based more on physical expression as opposed to the pretty lines of ballet. Originating the United States in the early 20th Century this style has grown and changed over the years. Some of the more contemporary include Twyla Tharp, Alvin Ailey, and Mark Morris. Contemporary is modern dance without a lineage. At Bloomsburg School of Dance we train our students in Horton. The Horton method is the most common style you will find in collegiate dance. It is a huge asset to have Horton training prior to entering college. Almost all college dance auditions will include Horton technique.
This style will greatly assist your budding musical theater star. In the theater world one is considered to be a 'triple threat' if they can sing, dance, and act, so a combination of singing, dancing, and acting is taught in this class. The class is musical theater based. Script writing is also part of the artistic process in this class.
